Established in 1981, Ships of the Desert is Cable Beach's original - and best - camel train. Owned and operated by Chris Hill, one of Australia's most experienced and well respected camel operators, Ships of the Desert delivers the most informative, captivating Cable Beach experience.
Whether morning, afternoon, or sunset, Chris and his highly trained staff guarantee far more than just a camel ride. Having personally caught and trained each animal, he and his staff are well acquainted with the individual personalities of these gentle giants.
Chris has walked camels through every major desert of Australia, on many occasions travelling totally solo. At only 16, Chris was walking his own camel string down the notorious Birdsville track. His myriad of adventures include
crossing the Simpson with 6 wild camels; mustering camels for export; and racing camels in every state of mainland Australia.
